Best Books for NEET 2026 — Physics, Chemistry and Biology
One of the most common questions NEET aspirants ask is which books to use. The honest answer is: fewer books than you think. The problem is not which books to buy — it is students buying too many and finishing none properly. This guide gives you the minimum effective list.
The one rule before anything else
NCERT textbooks are not preparation material — they are the exam. NEET Biology is almost entirely from NCERT lines. NEET Chemistry (Inorganic especially) is heavily NCERT. Even Physics has NCERT derivations that appear directly in the exam. Read your NCERT textbooks before opening any reference book. Multiple times.
Physics
Concepts: HC Verma — Concepts of Physics (Vol 1 and 2)
The clearest physics text written for Indian entrance exams. Read the theory sections carefully before attempting problems. Do not skip the worked examples. For NEET, not all chapters are equally important — prioritise mechanics, electricity, optics, and modern physics.
Problems: DC Pandey — Objective Physics
DC Pandey's objective books are specifically designed for NEET-level problems. Work through the exercises chapter by chapter. The difficulty level matches NEET very well. If you are consistent with DC Pandey, you will find NEET Physics manageable.
Chemistry
Physical Chemistry: N Avasthi or P Bahadur
Both are good. N Avasthi is slightly more structured for NEET. P Bahadur has more variety. Pick one and finish it — do not switch halfway through. Physical Chemistry needs daily practice, so commit early.
Organic Chemistry: Morrison and Boyd (for concepts) + MS Chauhan (for problems)
Morrison and Boyd gives you real understanding of reaction mechanisms. MS Chauhan provides extensive practice. Together they cover Organic Chemistry at a depth that makes NEET questions feel straightforward. If you only have time for one, use MS Chauhan.
Inorganic Chemistry: NCERT + VK Jaiswal
NCERT is primary for Inorganic. VK Jaiswal fills in the gaps with practice questions. Do not go looking for more — Inorganic in NEET is very closely tied to NCERT text.
Biology
Primary: NCERT Class 11 and 12 Biology
Read them multiple times. This is not an exaggeration. The questions that differentiate 550-scorers from 680-scorers in Biology are almost always questions that test whether you read specific NCERT lines carefully or just skimmed them.
Practice: MTG Fingertips Biology or Trueman's Biology
MTG Fingertips provides chapter-wise MCQs mapped directly to NCERT. Excellent for testing your NCERT knowledge. Trueman's is more comprehensive but also heavier — better suited for students with more time. Either one works alongside thorough NCERT reading.
The final book list
Physics: NCERT + HC Verma + DC Pandey. Chemistry: NCERT + N Avasthi + MS Chauhan + VK Jaiswal. Biology: NCERT (primary) + MTG Fingertips. That is eight books for the full year. Finish them properly before considering anything else.
